Lin Huxiao, leader of a mountain bandit gang, faces his stronghold's collapse due to the government's harsh taxes. Vowing, "So what if I'm a bandit? I'll become an official to take down these corrupt officials!" he disguises himself as a scholar to take the imperial exam. There, he uncovers the chief examiner selling exam questions and the prefect embezzling disaster relief grain. Using his "bandit tricks"—blackmailing corrupt officials with their secrets, having his brothers pretend to be ghosts to force confessions—he accidentally solves a wrongful case and becomes the people's "Incorruptible Lin." But the court suspects his "unknown identity," and his childhood sweetheart Su Wanqing, a official's daughter, finds his bandit tattoo on the wrist. Caught between protecting his stronghold and fighting corruption, can this "bandit official" stay true to his heart and become a good official for the people?
