In the 1980s, when a small coastal town brimmed with opportunities, young Lin Jianguo inherits his grandfather’s leaky rusted fishing boat. Immediately, he is ridiculed by townsfolk and suppressed by his rival, with his ex-lover’s brother publicly branding him “good-for-nothing”. Refusing to give up, he sails the worn boat for offshore fishing and transports fresh seafood via hitchhiking, getting secret help from kind-hearted Amei who offers tools and market links. Seizing every business chance amid storms, he turns the broken boat into a medium-sized ocean-going fleet, shames all who once looked down on him, wins Amei’s heart, and becomes a rags-to-riches legend full of thrill and romance.
