In the 1980s, Lin Chen, a down-and-out young relative, relies on his grandfather's half-finished treasure-hunting notes to find a broken porcelain bowl discarded as trash in an abandoned kiln on the outskirts of the city, drawing the covetousness of unscrupulous antique dealers. Defying the ridicule of an “amateur”, he picks up successive big deals such as Yuan blue-and-white porcelain and Shang-Zhou Dynasty bronzes from the debris. Not only does he get rid of poverty, but also establishes his own antique company, breaking through the siege of peers' jealousy and suppression.
