Su Mo, heir to the intangible cultural heritage bamboo weaving, faces his family business on the verge of bankruptcy. His uncles force him to pass off assembly-line fakes as genuine works for investment, violating his long-held belief that “bamboo weaving is a living art”. Torn between family pressure, his uncles’ schemes and his original aspiration, Su Mo accepts the bamboo weaving competition challenge. He spends half a year weaving the lost “Hundred Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix”, not only slapping the doubters, but also breaking the cage that “traditional crafts cannot support business”, leading the old craftsmanship to an amazing comeback.
