Once a dissolute dandy indulged in hunting and feasting, he unexpectedly becomes the seventh-rank county magistrate in a remote town. Intending to muddle through his term and return to the capital, he is forced to investigate the disappearance of the previous magistrate. He has to tackle corrupt underlings, local gentry's obstacles, and political enemies' assassinations, and unexpectedly falls in love with a disguised imperial censor's daughter, transforming from a lazy dandy to a just official protecting the local people.
