Shen Zhaozhao of the Northern Town Marquis Mansion is a famous spoiled princess in the capital—cockfighting, dog racing, visiting gambling dens, playing tricks on aides, living like a "little devil". But her cynicism is all a disguise: ten years ago, her mother was framed for adultery and hanged herself in the woodshed, while the Marquis Mansion covered up the truth. To find the murderer, she approaches Lu Jingxing, the new top scholar who denounced the Marquis Mansion's embezzlement—this "cold-faced gentleman" holds evidence of the mansion's crimes. They make a "contract marriage": Shen Zhaozhao helps Lu Jingxing secure the position of Minister, and Lu Jingxing helps her reopen the case. During their time together, Lu Jingxing discovers that the "little devil" gives silver to beggars and cooks ginger tea for him; Shen Zhaozhao also falls for Lu Jingxing's tenderness—he stands in front of her when she's bullied and pats her back to comfort her during nightmares. When the truth of revenge approaches, can their "fake marriage" become real?
