Chaochao is the beloved "little lucky star" of Qingzhu Town—she can understand the cries of stray cats, read the thoughts of the old banyan tree, and even the village millstone loves to chat with her. But recently, strange things have been happening: children's kites get stuck in the tallest tree for no reason, the well water suddenly turns bitter, and even the Guanyin statue weeps at night. Following the clues from her ability to communicate with all things, Chaochao discovers that all these怪事 are linked to a woman the town "forgot" twenty years ago—that woman is her missing mother, who is sealed as a "resentful spirit" in the western broken temple. When the little lucky star's warmth collides with her mother's long-held resentment, can Chaochao use her power to awaken her mother's tenderness and solve the town's twenty-year-old heartache?
