Lin Xiaoman, a corporate slave driven to depression by workplace PUA, meets Gu Chuan, a forensic doctor trapped in guilt for failing to save his sister, by a bowl of hot porridge in a late-night convenience store. Two wounded souls move from tentative probing to baring their hearts—Lin dare not tell her family about her illness, while Gu hides his sister’s old notebook, afraid to open it. They become each other’s "soft ribs": Lin brings hot soup when Gu works overtime, and Gu holds her silently when Lin breaks down. They also become each other’s "armor": Lin helps Gu open the notebook, only to find his sister wrote, "I want to be like my brother"; Gu accompanies Lin to confront her boss, saying, "Your health matters more than work." On the day Lin’s small shop opens, Gu holds his sister’s hairpin and says, "She’d love this place." Two people who once crawled in the dark finally warm the cracks in their hearts with each other’s warmth.
