Lin Xia, a single mother, faces her daughter Xiaotang’s terminal illness—only 100 days left to live. While sorting her late husband’s old bookstore, she stumbles upon a mirror that can travel between parallel worlds. In the other world, Xiaotang is healthy and cheerful, but the “other Lin Xia” is a career-obsessed woman who abandoned her family. Lin Xia secretly takes the other Lin Xia’s place to accompany the parallel Xiaotang, only to be confronted: “I’ve long wanted to exchange for a ‘loved daughter’ to make up for my regret.” The two mothers fight a hidden battle for “their own Xiaotang.” Meanwhile, the dying Xiaotang has already discovered her mother’s secret; with her last strength, she writes: “Mom, wherever you are, that’s my home.” As the passage closes, Lin Xia must choose between a “living daughter” and “her own daughter”—unaware that the parallel Xiaotang is also plotting to help her keep the most precious thing.
