In an ordinary residential building, the Li family has been plagued by a string of oddities lately: Mom’s hidden pension money in her wardrobe vanished without a trace, Dad’s cigarette case keeps popping up with unfamiliar health-preserving tea, and their newly graduated daughter always comes home late, only making vague excuses about “working overtime”. The family grows suspicious of one another, bickers constantly and draws neighbors’ attention. It’s not until the New Year’s Eve family dinner that the truth unfolds: Mom wanted to use the pension to buy a new hearing aid for her hard-of-hearing husband, Dad secretly signed her up for the community senior university to fulfill her opera dream, and the daughter was taking part-time jobs to save money for renovating their old home. This chaotic family farce is actually brimming with quiet, unseen warmth.
