Down-on-his-luck fishing apprentice Aqiang in a coastal village hasn't caught a single fish for half a month and is on the brink of eviction. Just as he's ready to give up, he hooks a red-haired talking mermaid. Fleeing hunters sent by a nearby polluting factory, she begs him for shelter. Now Aqiang must hide her from the villagers, take on the corrupt company, and help her restore her habitat before her time on land runs out. Sparks fly as they bicker and support each other, but an ecological crisis threatening the entire coastal area is looming.
