In the 23rd year of the Republic of China, the city of Jingsheng is engulfed in dense fog for days, with visibility dropping to less than five meters. When the wealthy Gu family’s town-protecting heirloom jade is stolen and their housekeeper Chen Fu is found dead in his study, only a strange brass button is left at the crime scene. Newly graduated detective Lin Yan is temporarily assigned to the case, only to find every member of the Gu family hiding secrets: the second wife has an affair, the eldest son embezzles funds, and the eldest daughter conceals mysterious letters.
