Su Xiao marries into Wangjia Village deep in the Taihang Mountains, only to find the century-old village well revered as the "Bride's Well". Locals insist every new bride must pray at the well for three days, or disaster will befall her family. Dismissing it as feudal superstition, Xiao refuses to comply. On the second day of her marriage, her husband goes missing overnight, her mother-in-law kowtows and wails by the well day and night, and their vegetable garden withers overnight.
