Five hundred years after the Journey to the West, Sun Wukong, the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, has long lost his edge. He lives a quiet life on Flower Fruit Mountain with old monkeys, but lost most of his magic power due to the "karmic backlash" from the Magic Headband. Suddenly, a "Great Sage" appears in the mortal world—wielding the Ruyi Jingu Bang and riding a somersault cloud, yet wrecking poor villages and vowing to "settle old scores with Heaven." Sun Wukong descends the mountain with a rusty iron rod, only to find the fake Great Sage is A Ji, the little macaque he once saved—the kid who used to tug his cape and say, "I want to be a hero like you," now consumed by inner demons. Powerless to fight A Ji, Sun Wukong is called a "fake" by the people. Caught between waking his lost friend and clearing his name, he realizes: what's harder than fighting monsters is pulling a hero's heart back from the edge.
