Qin Kong, a cultivator from a hidden immortal sect, is forced to descend the mountain to pass the “Red Dust Trial of the Heart.” Confused by modern society, he stumbles into being a “rental boyfriend”—after all, his sect said “accumulating merit requires entering worldly life.” He plans to finish a few orders and return, but meets Lin Wan, a terminally ill female CEO who fakes optimism. She tells stories of her late mother while holding a cat at night, leaves canned food for stray dogs during overtime—making Qin Kong feel “heartache” for the first time. But when he discovers Lin Wan’s “illness” is actually evil spirits haunting her, and his “Trial of the Heart” is tied to her life, what was once just a “part-time job” becomes a redemption gamble with his true heart. He must hide his ability to control objects and heal, while quietly protecting her from fatal煞气 (evil energy) in the gaps of “pretending to be a boyfriend.”
