Su Tang, a top modern pastry chef, is reborn as an unloved illegitimate daughter of the General's Mansion in the Daqi Dynasty. Offending her legitimate sister, she's sent to the imperial kitchen as a lowly maid. Trying to lay low, she substitutes for someone to make osmanthus lotus root—only to have Emperor Shen Yan, incognito, taste his past-life regret in it. Shen Yan approaches intentionally, but Su Tang thinks he's here to cause trouble. Amid their "hide-and-seek" interactions, Su Tang's home-cooked meals melt the emperor's cold heart. Yet her sister's revenge and court conspiracies creep closer. How many undercurrents lie in this sweet game of "cooking conquering the emperor"?
