Emperor Murong Ke of Northern Yan ruled with an iron fist, but his life was haunted by one regret: failing to protect his younger brother, Murong Zhao—who died shielding him from assassins, only to be framed as a traitor by enemies. The only survivor of the family massacre was his pregnant sister-in-law, Shen Qingtang. To avenge his brother, Murong abandoned his throne, disguised himself as "Gu Zhao" (a rustic scholar), and married Shen as her "substitute husband." This role was both a tribute to his brother and a cover to investigate the truth. Yet as they lived together, he discovered a shock: Shen had known he wasn’t the real "Gu Zhao" all along? Worse, the old tragedy involved his most trusted prime minister! Caught between imperial scheming and his role as a commoner husband, he also struggled with growing feelings for Shen—was this marriage of revenge a tool… or their path to redemption?
