Su Wan, an orphan on the run from debt collectors, uses her late mother’s pocket watch to buy Jiang Ye—labeled “the strongest shield” in an underground market. It’s a transaction: she needs a bodyguard, he needs survival. But as they live together, the cold Jiang Ye secretly fixes her broken hairpin and pats her back during nightmares. Su Wan, in turn, reveals her deepest fear—not the debt, but being abandoned again. When debt collectors break down their door, Jiang Ye shields Su Wan in his arms and pulls out an old necklace he’s hidden for ages: “The watch was your shield, but I’m your safe harbor—no cost, no expiration.” Two people who once wandered in darkness finally piece together the shape of “home” from their supposed deal.
