Lin Xiaoman has saved sugar wrappers for ten years, each one holding her feelings for Lu Xingyao, her brother's childhood friend—from hiding behind a tree watching him play basketball at 12, to watching him in a suit at her brother's wedding at 22. A glass of lychee wine at her birthday party gave her courage: she pushed a jar of sugar wrappers in front of him and said, "Lu Xingyao, I like you, sweeter than sugar." But he frowned and said, "Xiaoman, I'm your brother's friend," and when he turned away, his sleeve knocked off the oldest wrapper in the jar—the one from the orange candy he gave her when he was 18. Later, when she avoided him, he started showing up at the milk tea shop downstairs from her company, handing her hot cocoa when she worked overtime, and waiting for her with an umbrella on rainy nights—turns out he had long hidden her sugar-wrapper secrets in his wallet. The "brother's friend" who dared not reveal his feelings is finally becoming "the one who will eat sugar with you for a lifetime."
