In 2026, a remote frontier town in southern China is hit by a bizarre phenomenon—"weeds run wild." Unknown vine-like weeds spread rapidly, devouring farmlands and blocking streets, forcing villagers to flee in panic. Lin Xia, a botany master returning to help her grandma with the old house, gets involved in the investigation. Shen Yi, her childhood sweetheart, a former town volunteer researcher now working at CDC, joins her. They discover the source of the wild weeds points to a hidden embezzlement case of ecological experiment funds a decade ago. Is the weed disaster related to the sacrifice of Lin Xia's grandfather? They uncover the old scam in the weed-tangled lab, and rediscover their original intentions and each other in the ruins.
