During the late Tang's Tianbao period, low-ranking courier Chen Liu takes an urgent mission: gallop thousands of miles to deliver lychees to win a smile from Imperial Consort Yang. He braves landslides, bandits, worn-out saddles and dust-caked robes, finally making it to the palace gate on time. But when he meets the consort, he finds her weeping over an urgent military report about freezing frontier soldiers suffering from hunger and cold. Chen Liu swaps most lychees for cotton winter clothes borrowed from local merchants, only keeping half a basket of lychees. An unexpected twist that subverts the stereotype of the "fatal beauty" unfolds immediately.
