Su Wan, a nobody in an ad agency, has had all her proposals rejected for three months—one more flop and she’s out. Her last shot is a slogan for a dying traditional brush brand, with the client demanding, “Capture the soul of the brush, or forget it.” Going through her grandfather’s old brushes, Su Wan remembers his final moment: clutching a brush with white-knuckled hands, the character “Zhi” (persist) carved into the handle, seeped into the wood. She submits “Zhi” as the slogan. To her shock, the client’s boss—her grandfather’s former apprentice, expelled for wanting to “marketize” brushes—tears up. “Zhi” brings back his master’s words: “Hold your heart to write, hold the soul to make brushes.” Su Wan saves her job, settles her grandfather’s regret, and the brand blows up with “Zhi”. She becomes a legend known as “the one who conquered with one word.”
