Lao Zhou, the quietest man in the village, guards the three mu of farmland left by his late wife, growing rice to send his daughter to high school. Until the bully Li Hu led his men to tear down the fence and seize the field, even molesting his daughter who came to deliver lunch right in front of him. Lao Zhou's hand clutching the sickle bulged with veins—ten years ago, he went to prison for standing up for a co-worker, and since then he's barely spoken above a whisper. But today, his daughter's cries cut like a knife. Late at night, he sneaks into Li Hu's yard, his hatchet glinting cold: "Either return my field, or we die together."
