Thirty-year-old Lin Wan returns to her hometown to take care of her family's old house, where she finds a silver hairpin — the token of her first love Chen Yu — and an unsent letter dating back ten years. They broke up due to family objections and promised to meet at the riverside to reconcile, but Lin left in a rage and cut off all contact. She traveled across half the country looking for Chen to resolve their misunderstanding, but he vanished without a trace. Until she opened a vintage bookstore on the old street, she received an anonymous package containing her lost hairpin, with a note reading: "I waited by the river for three years and died before seeing you". She learned Chen quit his job to wait for her and passed away alone, becoming the old love she'll never meet again for the rest of her life.
