Su Wan, a reclusive healer, saves Gu Jingshen, the wounded General of Zhenbei. Three months of mountain companionship binds them in a secret engagement. But when Gu returns to the capital, he arrives with a marriage contract for the Prime Minister’s daughter, sneering, “You’re not worthy of being a general’s wife.” Heartbroken, Su flees—only to stumble upon Gu’s secret letter: the emperor intended to draft her as a palace healer, and Gu had to fake unfaithfulness to protect her, even taking the crime of “disobeying the emperor” to be sent to the deadliest border. Rushing to the city gate, Su sees nothing but the dust of Gu’s army and a half jade pendant he left, carved with, “In the next life, I will never fail you.”
