Lin Xiaoman and Gu Shiyan, a couple engaged for five years, were about to marry when Xiaoman was diagnosed with late-stage brain cancer. To spare her lover from the pain of loss, she faked a car accident "disappearance" and hid in a suburban sanatorium waiting for death. But she didn't know Gu Shiyan had long discovered the truth from her medical records—he secretly rented the entire floor of the sanatorium, watched her sleep through the glass every night, listened to her voice messages a thousand times, and even prepared an "eternal wedding": weaving a ring with her hair and planting her favorite hydrangeas all over the ward. When Xiaoman woke up from a coma and saw the room full of flowers and Gu Shiyan in a wig (due to chemotherapy hair loss), she finally understood: the "lonely sleep" she thought of was never alone—he had always been there, breathing with her.
