A husband sacrificed his life saving a village child from drowning, but was slandered by the whole village incited by a local ruffian—they framed him as a drunk who pushed the child into the water and refused to rescue. For three years, his widow Li Mei raised their young son amid contempt and cold words, making a living by growing chili peppers. One day, her son, who had witnessed the whole incident, saw the rescued child coming to the village to find his savior.
