Lin Wandie is the last heir of "Fuxinghao" paper craft shop in the old alley, making a living with the paper butterfly craft left by her grandfather—her paper butterflies have unique vein patterns on their wings, which are said to "carry wishes". Until Gu Jingshen, a man in a suit, bursts into the shop and offers a huge sum to ask her to make a hundred paper butterflies, claiming he needs them to find his mother who has been missing for ten years. It turns out that Gu's mother was her grandfather's last disciple, and the last thing she made before disappearing was a paper butterfly with vein patterns. As each paper butterfly is completed, they find that the patterns on each wing can form half an old map, and the other half is hidden in the wooden box left by Gu's mother. When the last paper butterfly spreads its wings, they not only have to face the truth of the disappearance case, but also confront her grandfather's guilt towards Gu's mother, Gu Jingshen's obsession with his mother, and Lin Wandie's hidden doubt about "persistence".
