Small-town youth Lin Xiaoman has dreamed of football since childhood, but a childhood leg injury led professional teams to declare him “hopeless forever.” He can only practice secretly on a shabby field next to a scrap yard, using a plastic bottle as a “ball.” Zhou Zhengkun, a retired national team player, hides in the town running a noodle shop, haunted by the nightmare of missing a penalty in a crucial final years ago. By chance, he sees Lin juggling the “ball”—a spitting image of himself 20 years ago, playing through swollen legs. Zhou initially mocks him as “overestimating himself,” but Lin’s determination—carrying bricks to save training fees, kneading dough for the noodle shop at dawn—finally hits his soft spot. They become the “shabby field master-apprentice,” enduring ridicule while helping Zhou overcome his “penalty trauma.” Until the final of a folk league, Lin dribbles past three defenders with his “street dribbling,” only for his old injury to tear open at the moment of shooting… Can he score the goal that could rewrite both their fates?
