Lin Xiaoman, a down-and-out trickster, never plays her "schemes" by the book—she tricked a pancake seller into adding soy milk, turning the stall into a viral hit; she tricked a programmer into fixing a bug, and his project landed a million-dollar funding. Chen Mo, a new economic crimes detective, sets his sights on her, determined to expose this "counterintuitive fraud." But the deeper he digs, the more he uncovers: Lin Xiaoman's "tricks" hide tenderness—the pancake seller gave her a warm meal years ago, the programmer's father fixed her broken computer. She uses "tricks" to help proud people accept kindness, while shouldering massive debts from a past scam. When Chen Mo shifts from "adversary" to "someone wanting to protect her," can the wounds Lin Xiaoman hid in her schemes be gently uncovered?
