In a Miao village, 10-year-old A Ji lives with his embroideress mother A Lian, making a living by selling embroidery. One day, Qiang Ge, a bully from a neighboring village, forces A Lian to “accompany him for drinks”. Desperate, A Ji takes out his grandpa’s “divine bow” — an old bamboo bow — and shoots at Qiang Ge, but only scratches his hand. Just as Qiang Ge is about to hit A Ji, a man in an old military uniform rushes in, grabbing Qiang Ge and growling: “Touch my family? You’re asking for death?” It’s Lin Chuan, A Ji’s father who vanished for 10 years — a “War God” company commander who faked his death to dismantle a drug ring. He beats Qiang Ge to his knees and takes down Qiang’s gang. That night, Lin Chuan touches the bow and says to A Ji: “The power of the divine bow is the will to protect. Now it’s Dad’s turn to shield you two.”
