The Eternal Regret revolves around the childhood love between Shen Zhao, a border general, and Gu Zhaozhao, the beloved daughter of the Gu family in the capital. On the eve of their engagement, Shen Zhao is forced to go to war. Three years later, he returns only to find his lover has married the emperor. It turns out the emperor, jealous of their deep affection, threatened the Gu family's lives, forcing Gu Zhaozhao to pretend to submit to protect Shen Zhao. Misunderstanding her as greedy for glory, Shen Zhao treats her coldly—until he uncovers the emperor's usurpation plot: his father's death is linked to the emperor! Caught between a blood feud and unrequited love, when Gu Zhaozhao takes a poisoned arrow for Shen Zhao and utters the three-year-hidden "I never betrayed you," can their eternal regret across life and death finally be resolved?
