Lin Wan has been guarding the old bookstore she ran with her lover Gu Chuan for three years, writing a letter every day that can never be sent—turning her longing into smoke on paper. Until one day, Chen Mo, a man who looks exactly like Gu Chuan, suddenly appears, claiming to buy the bookstore. Lin Wan finds Gu Chuan’s silver ring hidden by Chen Mo—the token of their promise to “see the sea together.” When Chen Mo takes out Gu Chuan’s last diary, she realizes: Gu Chuan disappeared because he was terminally ill and didn’t want to burden her, and Chen Mo is here to fulfill his brother’s unsaid promise. The longing she thought had turned to smoke was actually written by Gu Chuan into a “accompany you to see the sea” will, re-entering her life in another form.
