When the man raises an axe to the tree, the plaque blazes, and the elm’s branches wrap around the excavator—all villagers witness the "miracle." Finally, she uses the tree’s qi to develop wellness tourism, saving the elm and enriching the village. She realizes: "Cultivating immortality" is just the tree choosing someone who’ll guard their home.
