In a small village, everyone mocks the new young veterinarian as a bumbling 'village quack' just scraping by. Villagers dare not entrust their sick livestock to him—until Old Zhang's dying old ox is left in his hands. The whole village waits for him to fail, but he uses a lost ancient acupuncture skill to save the ox. That feat shatters their prejudice and leads him to uncover an old case tied to the livestock's illness. Meanwhile, he meets a female journalist visiting for rural sketches.
