Lin Xia, an investment banking elite, had been estranged from her father for half a year when he suddenly passed away. While sorting his belongings, she found an old photo hidden for 30 years and a mysterious passbook—with monthly transfers to a woman named Zhou Xiaotang. Following the clue to the old town, Lin Xia learned her father’s secret: at 18, he and Zhou Xiaotang were lovers. Xiaotang was forced to marry after getting pregnant and died from postpartum hemorrhage, leaving a daughter, Zhou Niantang. Her father had secretly taken care of them for years but dared not tell her out of guilt. The last page of his diary read: "Xiaxia, I didn’t tell you because I was afraid you’d blame me—but you’ve always been my favorite daughter." Lin Xia finally understood: her father’s "secrecy" was his deepest tenderness.
