Xiao Wan, a young editor, moves into an old-town loft to meet a deadline. Her new neighbor, Shen Yanzhi, is icy and distant—until he keeps 'coincidentally' saving her: shielding her from a stalker on her late commute, searching three hours for her lost cat via surveillance, even making ginger tea in an apron when she has a fever, his fingers still dusted with her favorite osmanthus cake crumbs. When Xiao Wan catches him murmuring to an invisible 'Book of Life and Death', she learns this 'rule-breaking' neighbor is a Judge from the Underworld, sent to guide her—the lingering soul of someone who never entered reincarnation. But Shen Yanzhi has long abandoned his 'Judge’s Code': instead of sending her to the afterlife, he wants to keep her in his world forever.
