In the 1970s, in a rural village of Northeast China, hunter Zhao Dazhuang is always unlucky, barely catching game and mocked by village hooligans. When he rescues Lin Xiu, an orphan fleeing famine, Dazhuang swears to give her a stable life. His hunting luck then turns around: he gains rare game, saves an old trapped hunter to inherit his skills, builds a new house with Xiu’s encouragement, becomes a respected villager, dotes on Xiu as his treasure, and turns the hooligans’ mockery into embarrassment.
