Deaf-mute mother Lin Xiufang raises piano prodigy daughter Xiaoyu by collecting scraps. When Xiaoyu qualifies for an international competition but wants to quit due to financial constraints, Lin works three jobs day and night to raise the funds. But a car accident erases her memory on the way to deliver the money. At the hospital, Xiaoyu discovers old newspapers of her past competitions - treasures her mother had secretly kept amidst the 'trash'. Playing her award-winning piece, Xiaoyu miraculously revives her mother's memory, their tearful reunion echoing through the piano's melody.
