Su Wan, an urban architect, travels to the remote mountain “Qianshan” to find her missing grandmother, only to stumble into Gu Shen’s “firefly forbidden zone”—a forest he guards with his life, where every summer firefly holds an unspoken promise from her grandmother’s past. Su Wan initially aims to convince Gu Shen to approve a tourism development project, but while going through her grandmother’s old diary, she uncovers a secret: Gu Shen’s grandfather and her grandmother once made a pact to watch fireflies every summer night, but her grandmother was forced to leave due to family issues, leaving it as a lifelong regret. When Gu Shen takes out the half-old hairpin his grandfather kept until his death, which perfectly matches the relic Su Wan brought from her grandmother, they finally understand: those year-after-year fireflies were never obsessions, but “waitings” left unfulfilled by two generations. Now, Su Wan wants to join Gu Shen in keeping Qianshan’s fireflies alive—forever lighting up those unsaid “I do’s”.
