Old Lin, a scrap collector in the suburbs known as the "poor old man", surprises everyone when he voluntarily returns a huge sum of cash to a flustered wealthy businessman late at night. As the businessman is puzzled, Old Lin takes out his engraved bamboo knife and carves a lifelike flower-and-bird pattern on a tissue, shocking the whole scene. It turns out that he is a state-level bamboo art master living incognito for years. He once owed his life to the businessman's father, so he pretended to be poor to avoid his enemies. Returning the huge sum is his act of repaying the kindness, and his identity unexpectedly saves the businessman's family business on the verge of bankruptcy.
