A poor fisherman A Fu rescues an injured mermaid girl Xiaojiao. Her tears turning into pearls help him get rich overnight, but blinded by greed, he cages her in a dark room, taking only her tears for fortune. A local bully, coveting the mermaid's special power, kidnaps Xiaojiao and traps her in an iron cage to offer to nobles. When A Fu sees her drying tear glands and remembers her initial purity, he breaks free from desire, rushes into the bully's lair with a blade, determined to cut the cage and retrieve the love and innocence he destroyed.
