The green snake demon, Lady Snake, takes human form and sneaks into a southern Yangtze River town to repay a life-saving favor from a scholar a hundred years ago. She moves into the study of Gu Yan, an orphaned son of her old friend, intending to quietly care for him and fulfill her debt. However, she accidentally discovers that the local county magistrate colludes with a demon priest to harm the people and covets Gu Yan's family heirloom town-calming jade pendant. While hiding her demon identity from human neighbors, she joins forces with Gu Yan to fight against the corrupt forces. The two gradually grow fond of each other, but now face the desperate situation of being hunted for their true identities.
