Lin Xiaoman and Chen Mo, high school sweethearts, broke up over a misunderstanding—she saw him holding another girl’s hand, but missed the fever medicine he hid behind his back (bought for her). A decade later, Xiaoman, a wedding planner, takes on a project for Chen Mo’s sister. When they reunite, Xiaoman is cold, but Chen Mo trembles holding their old couple bracelet—he’s traveled the world to explain, only to be shut down by her distance every time. Until the night before the wedding, Xiaoman finds Chen Mo’s old letter: “I left not because I didn’t love you, but because I was afraid you’d suffer with me,” plus his medical report (myocarditis from caring for his terminally ill father). At the same time, Chen Mo is hospitalized after shielding Xiaoman from a falling object. When Xiaoman arrives, she sees their old notebook by his bed, with the last line: “I’ve saved ten years of courage just to tell you—I never let you go.”
