Lin Xiaoman was just cheated on by her three-year boyfriend. Determined to save face at a class reunion, she grits her teeth and "hires" Gu Chuan, a cold and elegant lawyer, as her "temporary new flame". But Gu Chuan's actions go beyond expectations: when shielding her from her ex's pestering, his protective gaze feels real; when sorting old items with her, he remembers her favorite orange candies from high school; even when she works overtime late at night, he waits two hours downstairs with hot congee. Just as Xiaoman lets her guard down and plans to turn the fake into reality, she finds a yellowed photo in his wallet—it’s her at seventeen, with a note on the back: "My Xiaoman, finally waiting for you to look back." It turns out this "new flame" is an "old crush" who has hidden his feelings for her for ten years.
