Shen Zhaozhao, the proton princess of Beiyan, narrowly escaped a palace coup three years ago. When she returned incognito, she was betrothed by imperial decree to Xue Yan, the 'iron-hearted' young general of Zhenguo who held 200,000 troops. Both saw the marriage as a shackle: Shen Zhaozhao wanted to use Xue Yan's power to investigate the truth of the old palace coup, while Xue Yan needed the princess's identity to stabilize the court. The two, who exchanged harsh words on their wedding night, discovered the softness behind each other's schemes through repeated assassinations and protections—she was a 'little wild cat' who could stand in front of him with a sword, and he was a 'quiet gourd' who would search the entire capital for sweet osmanthus cakes when she was wronged. As court conspiracies gradually surfaced, they went from 'using each other' to 'running towards each other', joining hands to uncover the truth of the palace coup, and also guarding the light that belonged to each other in the deep spring of Tongque Terrace.
