At 17, Lin Xiaoman spent a decade as Jiang Ye's "background"—helping him chase his white moonlight Su Wan, hiding his unsent love letters, even staying three nights at the hospital for Su Wan. But Jiang Ye's eyes only ever held Su Wan, the girl in the white dress. Until a rainy midsummer night: Jiang Ye accidentally killed someone to cover Su Wan's secret, only to be stabbed by Su Wan. As he lay in Xiaoman's arms, his last words were "Find Su Wan for me." The day Xiaoman's world crumbled, Gu Yanchen appeared with her favorite lychee soda—the "wooden" senior she once disliked had long filled a notebook with her preferences: a small night light in the dark staircase, warm congee for her late nights. At the wedding, Xiaoman touched her wedding dress, whiter than Jiang Ye's old promises, and heard the cicadas fading outside. She realized some feelings should have stopped in the unspoken midsummer, and true light is someone turning her "dispensable" into "irreplaceable."
