Lin Xiao, a corporate worker preparing for the IELTS exam, meets a stranger in ancient Chinese costume in the library while looking for a study buddy to keep herself disciplined. The man claims to be a scholar from the prosperous Tang Dynasty who accidentally traveled to modern times. To earn enough "money to go back home", he volunteers to be Lin Xiao's IELTS study buddy, but always mixes up IELTS vocabulary with ancient classics. He mistranslates "ambition" as "the ambition of a swan" and forces parallel prose into his writing templates, making a lot of ridiculous jokes. While complaining about his unreliability, Lin Xiao is touched by his sincerity. During their chaotic study days, the two gradually uncover the secret behind the time-traveling scholar and find motivation for their exam preparation and life in each other's company.
