Gu Zhao, a former prime minister reduced to a commoner, joins newly ascended Female Emperor Shen Qingtang as a "cunning strategist"—all to avenge his family's brutal massacre. Shen, now being forced to abdicate by powerful court officials and even poisoned in her own palace chambers, is on the brink of collapse. Gu uses "underhanded tricks" to turn the tide: forging treasonous letters between a noble and the Northern Di tribe to trap him, leveraging folk rumors that Shen is the reincarnation of a divine maiden to unite the people, and staging a fake death to help her escape an assassination by the Great General. In exchange, Shen promises to clear his family's name—a pact of mutual exploitation. But when Gu discovers his family's killer is Shen's own uncle, and when the emperor must choose between protecting him and safeguarding the realm, this scheme of "aiding with tricks"—will it be a legend of mutual achievement, or the beginning of destruction?
