When antique book restorer Lin Wan picks up a celadon pillow carved with moon patterns at a flea market, she travels back to the Northern Song Dynasty every night when she sleeps. There, she meets General Shen Yan, a frontier warrior who has just returned after ten years of garrison duty. They grow fond of each other while reciting poems and painting under the moon, but she always wakes up with only the moon patterns on the pillow left. Until one day at an exhibition, she touches the pillow and travels back to the Song Dynasty with the jade hairpin Shen gave her, only to realize the "returner" the general has been waiting for ten years is actually her from a thousand years later.
